Anyone with some on topic and sensible/educated opinions on here that wants to have this discussion?
2nd crack at this post in 6 months and literally every other forum/group in the UK is managing to have this discussion reasonably now....apart from here?

I actually missed the thread first time round but I would say it is even more relevant now, however many months on.

Few questions if anyone has the answers
(Quite uneducated myself on some departments)

When and how will the price of gas and electric come down?
I’m assuming it’s when the war in Ukraine is over but maybe I’m wrong there, would like your views?

Same question but regarding petrol/diesel, also why is diesel so much more expensive?

Pumps near me I think petrol is roughly £1.55 and diesel £1.88
Getting rid of my diesel soon anyway, nothing to do with the price of fuel however.

I keep hearing this country is heading for its biggest recession of all time- When roughly do you see this peaking and happening and how long is it likely to be going on for?
I do worry for my kids generation and my dad said at the time when everybody was sunbathing and having bbq’s and getting paid not to work during covid that it would be them kids paying this monstrous debt back and not his age group

Will the price of supermarket items such as groceries ever come back down to what they were before this huge increase?

I know they have to pass on their increases that’s business but with everybody paying the prices now I always think- they could just keep those prices the same eventually because we are all paying it now as needs must.

Not joking our weekly shop used to be around £140 a week, for that we would get roughly ten bags of shopping from asda or wherever, that ten has now become five/six max and for the same price.

Look forward to learning a few things here, I have always kept my head out of the news on tv and newspapers but maybe that’s not been a good thing now.

Unless you're a high wage earner or a criminal making good money through illegal trade you are not going to see any slowing down of price hikes or even a peak/levelling off period until at least the end of 2024 (according to all the national stats, experts, and the bank of england) so for most low earners and families now is the time to start taking all this seriously and try to plan ahead for even more difficult times that are rapidly approaching.

Fuel, energy, food, essential commodities, housing costs, business costs, inflation etc, are going to continue to go up and up but wages aren't set to rise at a simlar rate to compensate for all this because business owners simply can't afford to do it so the next few years are looking even grimmer than the pandemic period and Brexit now. There is fucking no chance of the "return to normality" happening that we were all expecting when lockdowns ended.

We're at the stage now where nearly 40% of working class singles/low income families/and small to medium businesses, are all really starting to seriously struggle now and even go into serious debt just to try and survive. It's probably a lot easier for high income earners as they can just reduce the amount they usually save and carry on living their normal lives but that's not reality for the majority of people in this country who live from month to month and literally have nothing left to save after all bills are paid.

I cut back on all unnecessary spending during the pandemic to the point I was just living a very basic lifestyle for 2-3 years but over the past 12-18 months I've had to cut back even further so my life's at the stage of crisis point now and I'm really worried about my future. I've never bothered reading the news much in the past but I'm definitely a daily follower now and trying to find survival solutions.

Declaring myself homeless and asking for help is actually looking like a real possibility for me soon.

It can get to the point tho where there is nothing left to cut back on.

With things so tight people have already cut back to the the bare minimum and may have to further so more but on what exactly?

Nothing left to cut back on and I know a couple of families already in that boat, very upsetting to see.

If you are really considering the prospect of declaring yourself homeless and asking for help for which I am sorry to hear of, are you not best doing so now rather than later as I fear thousands and thousands more will be doing so too.

Any if you see the Winter of discontent 1978 documentary a few weeks back, it's exactly what's happening now. I wonder why don't they look back at this and think what can we do and why did they not learn from that time.

I'll know by the end of this week if I can get enough financial support from my family to still keep my business going for the next few years so it's the outcome of that discussion that will decide what I have to do next. If I can't get the financial support to keep the business going I'll have no choice but to declare homelessness and unemployment and my life will hit rock bottom overnight. I'm stressing so much at that moment that I'm getting pains in my chest daily like I'm about to have a heart attack.
I've got a letter from my Mum here that I've had for 2 days now but I'm too scared to even open and read it for fear of her giving me bad news.

This is the worst time I've ever had in my life (and I've had more than my fair share of hard life experiences in the past too!)

I'm literally praying to God for miracles every night at the moment but under this current government I think it's quite clear now that a lot of us are totally screwed and we're going to be thrown into deep poverty and crisis.

This is a fucking great idea. Rewarding customers with cash payment incentives if they agree to not use energy at certain times of the day.
It does spark a debate about privacy concerns though as your home/business will be monitored but if you're struggling with bills and finances at the moment this option could be of some benefit to you and reduce your monthly outgoings considerably.

RAC worker told me today the wholesale price of diesel has been 22 pence lower for a long time now yet the benefit is not being passed on or nowhere near.

I fully believe that and I bet 22p is just a low end evaluation. We're all getting screwed at the moment and "the powers" are actually profiting from our suffering by creating unnecessary hysteria around energy/fuel supplies and transportation of goods and commodities.

I always suspected that there was going to be a rebound to the furlough scheme during Covid and sooner or later the Government would come after us all to recoup the money it spent/lost during the pandemic......despite the fact that none of us asked for lockdowns and stop working/stay at home orders and it was "them" who fucked this country with their stupid decisions about how to control a virus (same situation globally).

In laymans terms what's happening now in our economy is the equivalent of borrowing £100 from a dodgy loan shark, missing a payback payment, and then being told extra interest is being added to the loan and you have to pay back £10,000 to avoid getting kneecapped or having a petrol bomb coming through your window.

One of the reasons I'm quitting my taxi job, just since the war started Russia /Ukraine I'm around £80 a week down. I average around 55 hours a week and with what's left I'm on less than minimum wage, got a new start at my old place of work 3rd Jan. Thank fuck.

Hardly any money left in taxi work now I bet with such an increase on things compared to the good old days.

Where’s this new start?

Think yourself lucky you've been able to switch to another job so easily.
