When I heard on the radio about the Bank of England raising interest rates to 2008 levels when there was a recession it did make me wonder why did they do that, then the news is telling us were heading into a 2 year long recession. I'm no expert but no fucking wonder it doesn't take a genius to work that out, fuel prices at the pumps, sky high energy prices going up and up and then putting peoples mortgages up with the interest rates, wages staying the same as the last few years. NO SHIT!!!!!! were heading for a long recession.

I drive a taxi for a living and due to the fuel hike I'm around £70 a week down from last year, the local council won't let us raise our taxi fares either so hopefully I'm out of this game after Christmas.

I've been in a similar situation for the past 3 years and struggling to even survive tbh and I'm on the verge now of ending my self employed business, losing my home and going back to live with my mum and claim benefits, and trying to get back into a full time job working for someone else.

Brexit and Covid have totally destroyed life for so many people and businesses.

Don’t see that a big deal many are better of on benefits my dad is hate people that think it’s a lazy thing why fuking work for fuk all to live to not afford anything. Maybe if everyone got a wage that aloud a comfortable life then it be better of but the pedo government only care on making the rich richer fuk the government


Bus fair isn’t cheap
then the extra bills on top

unless you’ve landed a trade making mega bucks good business or got a degree in law or whatever else you aren’t living a comfortable life working minimal wage

on benefits your better off

I respect your opinion mate but I'm not the type of guy that wants freebies and hand outs. I like to feel like I've earned my money and contributed something towards society.

You might think that ending my business and losing my home is not a big deal.....but it's going to be a massive change for me if I lose my independence and all control over my life/finances and end up living in a 1 bedroom retirement flat with my 80 year old Mum and washing dishes in a restaurant or cleaning toilets for a living.

You're getting too personal and argumentative. I've run this business (successfully) since 2013 and prior to that I had a long career in a professional trade. The only time I ever claimed benefits (housing/income support) when was I left the family home at 18 years of age and was studying at college for 2 years. That was 35 years ago FYI.

We've been in a constant state of recession for about 10-15 years now mate but people seem to keep forgetting the previous recessions as the word "recession" has become normality in the UK now and it's almost a way of life for the working classes.

The current state of recession is probably the worst so far though after brexit, covid, inflation, cost of living crisis, government leadership madness etc, but nothing is going to get any better anytime soon, that's for sure. Big businesses are closing and downsizing/making cuts and dropping like flies now as it's too hard to stay afloat and make profit.

It's going to take a fucking miracle to put this country back on the right track and encourage new economic growth/business.

Totally agree the amount of people on benefits i take to the airport for holidays is unreal. If I knew how to play the system I would. "Only Fools and Horses work" if there is a book out there to learn you how to play the system I'll buy a copy.

What Darren is saying is correct though, those genuine claimants in poor ill health would trade places in a heartbeat.

The benefits lifestyle isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, long lie-ins each day or holidays abroad.

Those who do so and I know it goes on must have about ten children and claiming multiple different benefits for each one and probably got a few of them down as disabled too.

Also I bet these folk who want the all inclusive to Benidorm a few times a year live in poor house conditions and are eating microwave meals or chippy every night.

My mum worked all her life and had a very successful business (self made) until she was diagnosed with MS at 44 years old, she has been completely bed ridden now downstairs for the last five years and she is in receipt of the top rate of both benefits she is entitled to and let me tell you over a the month it doesn’t go far at all.

I myself do often scratch my head when I see the ones Jetting out on holidays and affording small luxuries because I know for a fact my mum couldn’t afford that.

She would swap roles in a heartbeat and that certainly includes income.

This discussion seems to be going off on a bit of a tangent (benefits).
Nothing I said was a "shot" at DG10 but, being honest, it's quite obvious to the regulars on here that me and Daz are 2 very different people from very different backgrounds and Daz is definitely favoured on here and always supported.

I show him respect regardless of my actual personal opinions about him and his youth but it's him who has always created little issues with me with the superior way he talks down to me at times for someone so young with limited life experience.

He's a very pushy/personal/invasive character .....but I'm very private and sheltered. The end result equals a clash of personalities but this is just a chat forum mate so I don't take things too seriously.

Please don't turn this into an ass kissing contest or the DG10 appreciation thread.

Now your just putting words into my mouth or cresting your own potential scenarios mate.

Nobody was or was going to do so.

Benefits clearly got brought up and I just wanted to share my own views surrounding them.

Nothing to do with arse kissing anybody, you may not see it as a cheap shot but to question somebody’s nationality and even propose they may be a migrant due to their structure or writing or wording, to me was a cheap shot.

Deep down I’m sure you know Daz isn’t a migrant, let’s just keep it friendly guys.

All walks of life and personalities on here and that’s what makes it great unlike the other forums where it’s slag-fest city.
